Guest Post: LolaStarHearts Summertime Tips

Lola is a 22-year-old PR student and beauty blogger from London. She blogs mainly about skincare, with a bit of makeup thrown in for good measure. You can check out her blog, LolaStarHearts here and also find her on Twitter here.

I hate summer. I know, I shouldn’t say that. But summer in England either consists of rain or a sticky, dry, humid heat. I can handle it anywhere else, but when it gets hot here it’s almost unbearable. Aside from the sweat patches that make me look like I’ve doused my clothes in water, my makeup is a huge problem in the heat.

It’s either sliding off of my face, smudging, or caking up – which obviously isn’t desirable, so here are my tips for keeping your face on during the heat.
PRIME
Primers are your best friends when it comes to makeup longevity. They’ll help keep it stay looking ‘fresh’ and keep it on your face longer. Moisturiser, primer, makeup. Check.
KEEP IT LIGHT
If you want to avoid your makeup caking then don’t cake it on. I need a full coverage foundation so I use a mineral powder, which gives me the coverage I need without being too heavy. However, BB creams and tinted moisturisers will work just as well depending on your skin. Top tip: make your own tinted moisturiser with some liquid foundation and a light moisturiser. Equal parts will give you a medium coverage, so tweak to your requirements.
LIQUIDISE
Grab yourself a waterproof liquid liner and ditch the kohl pencil for a while. The flick will never go out of fashion, and is much less likely to smudge than your beloved pencil. Top tip: a thin line of dark liquid liner over the lash line on your lid will give the appearance of fuller, thicker lashes.
SWEATPROOF LASHES
Waterproof mascara is a necessity. It may be a bit of a pain to remove, but at least it’ll stay in place for the whole day – no panda eyes here! Top tip: to remove your waterproof mascara apply some eye makeup remover to a face wipe and hold it over your lashes for a few seconds before wiping. The combination of the wipe and makeup remover will help budge that tough mascara with minimal drag.

GEL YOUR CHEEKS
Cream and gel blushers will last a lot longer on your skin without the need to reapply frequently. Avoid mineral oil based products though; they’ll clog up your pores. I use Becca Beach Tint so my blusher doesn’t end up around my jaw line.

BLOT IT
Blotting paper is great if you’re generally prone to shine. A decent blotting paper will get rid of the shine without smudging. I recently reviewed one here.
Most importantly, WEAR PROTECTION
Just because you can’t see some of the damage the sun is doing, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t protect your skin. Don’t be scared of SPF! Top tip: face mists are great to help cool you down during the heat and refresh your makeup. Pick up a mist such as Lancaster Sun Sport Multi Protection Express Mist, which contains SPF for added protection.

I hope these tips will help you now during our heat wave and perhaps when you go on holiday too!

What are your top summertime tips?

Blog of the Week 18.7.12

Due to a big miscommunication between us, we’ve all been thinking that someone else has been running Blog of the Week, until Giggle Girlie Gang mentioned it and we realised our faux pas.

It’s been so difficult to pick this week, we were sent some really amazing blogs and had a really tough time picking – even resorting to eenie meenie miney mo!

But without further ado, this week’s Blog of the Week is

We love Angela’s mix of posts, Hairspray and High Heels is a definite beauty all-rounder.
From hair to nails to skincare this blog covers it all. We love her NOTD posts, and if any of us are ever in Jersey, Angela has to treat us to a mani!

Guest Post: Dramatic Eyes by Aqeela

Aqeela has a huge passion for makeup and skincare, and loves drugstore products just as much as their high-end counterparts. She loves experimenting with new products, and creating lots of different looks.
Be sure to check out Aqeela’s blog, Aqeela Keela, and her twitter account @Aqeela_K.

Want guidance on this look?
Here's everything I used to create it.

Here you can see I started off with my lightest colour first.
I’ve also used this colour around the inner corner of the eye, then my main colour, finishing with the darkest colour. As I work my way towards the outer corner, I have taken the eye shadow above the crease. At the edges I used a slanted brush to get a neat finish.
Once I had applied all the colours of my choice I used an eye shadow blending brush and blended the colours together.

Here you can see how  I have applied my eye liner.
I used MAC Fluidline in ‘Blacktrack’.
I’ve gone for the double winged eyeliner look as I find when I am doing dramatic eyes this helps create more drama. I’ve also applied a highlighter to my brow bone; it’s amazing how much highlighters can make a difference!
I finished the eyes off by applying mascara.

For the cheeks I have used the contouring method by highlighting in a 'C' shape starting from above the eyebrow and leading onto the cheekbone.
Below the cheek bone I have applied the my blusher.

Finally on the lips I used Revlon Colourburst Lip Butter in ‘Shortcake’.
That’s the look complete, hope you enjoyed it.

What are your thoughts on this look?
Be sure to send me a picture if you recreate it!

Guest Post: The Ugly Truth

Katrina is a 21-year-old beauty blogger from Essex (sadly – her word, not ours!) She loves her job in Marketing and IT for a firm of solicitors and spends all of her money hitting the shops. Head to Hello Gorgeousx to see what she’s been buying! You can also find Katrina on twitter.

Are you happy with your looks?

It’s a sad fact that not many are; in fact shocking statistics from the SIRC indicate that almost 80% of women are unhappy with their reflection in the mirror.

It’s a sad world when beauty is viewed as only skin deep and opinions are based on a person’s appearance immediately, many not even giving others the chance to show their personality.

I will admit, and I know I won’t be alone in this, that I have previously judged someone based on the clothes they are wearing or the colour of their hair – but just because their look isn’t ‘me’ doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t be able to express themselves in this way! Why not dye your hair blue, wear neon clothes and platform shoes. Does this really affect the person and should it effect how we view them?

I have never been happy with how I look; it’s a sad fact, but true. But you tend to forget that you aren’t alone in this opinion and that none of us, without millions in the bank at least, can change how we look – only try our hardest with the latest hairstyle and make-up offerings.

But should we really want to try so hard to look like the ‘perfect’ person in our heads? Or even the airbrushed models we see in so many magazines? Is this even possible… sometimes perfection is so farfetched it would be near impossible to achieve! Why should we not celebrate our individual looks, wear whatever clothes we want and do it with confidence!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder after all.

Guest Post: Beauty Wishlist

Lorraine is a 20 year old blogger and fashion lover from Barcelona, Spain.
She runs a fashion blog called Scarves and Leather which you can keep up to date with through her Facebook page.

Lately I've been obsessed with lots of make up products, and I would love to get them all. I only have one of these products (Naked Palette 2 - $50 from Urban Decay), you will see a review very soon, stay tuned!), but the rest still are a point in my summer wishlist.

MAC Gel Eyeliner Pot
I don't care if it's MAC, Maybelline or whatever drugstore brand, but I want to try a gel eyeliner so badly, recently I've been fighting with all my liquid eyeliners (my last one was a Kiko one and it melts so easily, I don't like it at all D:)

Rimmel London Wake Up Foundation
I would love to try this foundation, I've seen reviews from Zoella and Fleur de Force blogs and everyone has said that is a good quality foundation despite the fact that it is a drugstore product and that it is true that it gives a ''good face finish'' (a thing that I would love to try at 7am when I wake up haha)

Sleek Blush Palette
I have my H&M blush in good conditions, but I want to try this palette so bad – the colours are beautiful! <3 And they are as pigmented as MAC blushes... (And the price, of course, is not the same!) I couldn’t find a website that sells it and that also ships to Spain, anyone can help me out? :)

Maybelline Colossal Volume Mascara
I need a new mascara, the ones that I already have are starting to dry out or simply I don't like the way they feel on my eyelashes, and I've heard a lot about this mascara (and Maybelline mascaras in general) so I will give them a try very soon!

Clinique Chubby Lipstick
I love matte lipsticks (you will never see me with gloss!) but this lipstick is the exception haha. It is very sheer and mousturizing for the lips and I really want to try it out as soon as possible, I don't mind if it's Clinique or Revlon :)

MAC Lipstick in Girl About Town
I'm looking for the perfect pink lipstick, and I'm not sure if I want a bright pink or a light pink... But what I know is that if I want a dark bright lipstick, one of my favourites will be this Girl About Town. It is very pigmented and long lasting, and MAC lipsticks have become my favourite ones, despite of their price!

Guest post: June Empties!

Shona is 14 and runs a blog called Freshbeautyxox. She writes about all things beauty and loves makeup (and cats!).

Today I have my June Empties for you, I haven’t used up much this month but I think these posts are really good for giving mini reviews on products, so this month I used up:
icare Makeup Remover Wipes (25 wipes)
These are my favourite makeup remover wipes to use, mainly because you get 3 for £1 in Bodycare (bargain right?). If, like me, you like to pamper your skin and take off your makeup with a cleanser then these are perfect for you.
Imperial Leather Japanese Spa Foamburst Body Wash Gel
I really love this body wash. This sprays out in a gel and becomes very foamy, very much like shaving cream/gel – for this reason I end up using way too much. I am not a particular fan of this scent as I hate milk and the smell of it, but I wanted to try it out as green tea sounds interesting!
Batiste Dry Shampoo the Original One
I have a massive love/hate relationship with dry shampoo’s and Batiste in particular. Some days I really love it and it refreshes my hair nicely but other days it does nothing or makes my hair feel weird! It can also sometimes leave white residue in your hair which isn’t nice at all! When it works though it is a nice product but I don’t think I will be repurchasing this anytime soon.
Garnier Pure SOS Pen (spot treatment)
This is a great spot treatment and does exactly what it should do (for once!). For me this treatment can get rid of spots in anything from 1 day to 3 days, which I think is pretty impressive! It is an amazing product but my elf zit zapper is just as good.

No7 Beautiful Skin Night Cream for Dry/ Very Dry Skin
I have always thought that night creams are pretty basic and I still think they are. If I wake up with very dry skin, it hasn’t worked. If I don’t, it has – simples! This product leaves me waking up with moisturised skin ready for my day cream however my Johnson’s 24hr day does the same job so I will just be using that.
Bare Minerals Mini Powder Foundation (original) SPF15 in Light
This is another love/hate relationship product, mainly hate though. I really liked this product at first, but I went through stages of loving and hating the finish. I definitely wouldn’t purchase the full size, especially as it’s quite expensive.

That’s all the items I have finished this month!
