Guest Post: The Ugly Truth

Katrina is a 21-year-old beauty blogger from Essex (sadly – her word, not ours!) She loves her job in Marketing and IT for a firm of solicitors and spends all of her money hitting the shops. Head to Hello Gorgeousx to see what she’s been buying! You can also find Katrina on twitter.

Are you happy with your looks?

It’s a sad fact that not many are; in fact shocking statistics from the SIRC indicate that almost 80% of women are unhappy with their reflection in the mirror.

It’s a sad world when beauty is viewed as only skin deep and opinions are based on a person’s appearance immediately, many not even giving others the chance to show their personality.

I will admit, and I know I won’t be alone in this, that I have previously judged someone based on the clothes they are wearing or the colour of their hair – but just because their look isn’t ‘me’ doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t be able to express themselves in this way! Why not dye your hair blue, wear neon clothes and platform shoes. Does this really affect the person and should it effect how we view them?

I have never been happy with how I look; it’s a sad fact, but true. But you tend to forget that you aren’t alone in this opinion and that none of us, without millions in the bank at least, can change how we look – only try our hardest with the latest hairstyle and make-up offerings.

But should we really want to try so hard to look like the ‘perfect’ person in our heads? Or even the airbrushed models we see in so many magazines? Is this even possible… sometimes perfection is so farfetched it would be near impossible to achieve! Why should we not celebrate our individual looks, wear whatever clothes we want and do it with confidence!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder after all.

This is great! I totally agree. I struggled with my looks and body image in teens but as I grew up I got a little bit better. Now, I am happy with myself but can't say 100%. I still look in the mirror, wishing I had this and that.

I have reposted that in my blog. Please follow me ^.^
